Aarhus Filmfestival 2012Tuesday the Aarhus Filmfestival opened for six early November days offering more than 150 films. A lot of eye-openers, fresh perspectives, curious wonders, and visionary power. Now. Present!
The opening film at the festival was the overwhelming “5 Broken Cameras“, the film witnesses the non-violent resistance in Bil’in, the self-taught cameraman Emad Burnat’s village at the West Bank. Bil’in is threatened by encroaching Israeli settlements, daily arrests, violent attacks, bulldozers tearing down olive trees, the loss of life and night raids in the village scare his family. One by one Emad’s cameras used to document these events is either shot or smashed.
“5 Broken Cameras“ won the World Cinema Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012 and the Special Jury Award at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in 2011.
There is one more chance to watch this must-see-film during the festival. Saturday at 17:00.
