Lower East

Inspiration

We want to work and we want to have fun! Often fun and work melts together, and why not? We always want to learn more, to get inspired from inspiring projects, or from brilliant exhibitions, or from the work of other designers and from the work of artists. We take a lot of photos, and love it. We always have our own projects running ‘besides’ the work. Right now we are working on ‘our own’ cook book and a series of postcard. And probably even more… Here is a part of our playground:

In spring and summer this year we created around 100 delicious dishes in the lower east lab – and have been taking astonishing photos of them. We are doing the last maneuvers the finish cookbook from “Camillo’s Kitchen“. We’ll keep you posted, we promise!

The Road Not Taken. By Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

It's more or less what we wanna do with our playground here

Where ever we are, we are always on the look for beautiful kitchenware, cutlery, fabric, colours, materials for the photo shooting for our cookbook – things that reflects the atmosphere of our kitchen life.

On the hunt for amazing props for our cookbook photos

What an amazing aesthetic way to put up a traffic sign.

The drive way to the Danish Art Center CCA, Andratx, Mallorca, run by Patricia and Jacob Asbæk. An amazing place with huge exhibition rooms and “to die for“ artist in residence studios. We went there for the opening of the exhibition “A Fabulous Encounter – HRH Prince Henrik of Denmark and COBRA painter Carl Henning Pedersen”. We designed the catalogue for the exhibition.

Our interns have a lot of tasks and talents. Here Hejdi is posing to show the size of the Olafur Eliasson catalogue.

The color yellow are meant to be very present in the new identity for Lower East.

We like it, it’s strong, it’s clear. Yellow and Go!

“Yellow is creative from a mental aspect, the color of new ideas, helping us to find new ways of doing things. It is the practical thinker, not the dreamer. Yellow is the best color to create enthusiasm for life and can awaken greater confidence and optimism.” (found on the world wide web).

It's yellow

Inspiration from Bauhaus:

“The individual elements of the Bauhaus teachings are inscribed in a circular shape. The areas of the preliminary course and building are conspicuously delineated from the core of the instruction – the workshops with their accompanying subjects – by a drawn double ring.

This is due to the special position that both of these teaching areas occupied: In order to even be accepted to the study programme at the Bauhaus, it was necessary to successfully complete the preliminary course. And only the most talented students could qualify for participation in the building theory course. The schema also indicates the length of the respective educational units.” Walter Gropius, Schema zum Aufbau der Lehre am Bauhaus, 1922

Inspiration? This important ingredient, when you try to create new stuff. Oh, where do you get your inspiration from? How do you make sure to maintain that you still get new and fresh ideas?

By walking! By walking the streets of your favorite city, by going out in the nature, sniffing the fresh air, enjoying the waves rolling up the coast, and the new green leaves growing and starting to unfold at the trees.

And by talking with people, about stuff that matters to you, by discussing and sharing. And of course checking out the art, the food, the colors, the street life…

But most of all by walking. And talk! With friends and people you just have met.

Experts are making a connection between knitting as a hobby and stress reduction. It is said that the repetitive movement of needlework can encourage a relaxed mind/body state just like you get from meditation and yoga and even lower heart rate and blood pressure and reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol.

Go knit it!

Always Do Your Best.

“Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.“

We and our graphic intern Hejdi Pattey created a series of postcards based on the spiritual teacher Don Miguel Ruiz’s “Four Agreements“.

Always do your best

New chairs in our design studio. Favorite colour to the right.

“There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who, with the help of their art and their intelligence, transform a yellow spot into sun.” Pablo Picasso.

Blue, red, yellow

We love walking the streets with our cameras and iphones. Taking pictures. Working with the very interesting media.

Here the Dome in Berlin, photo taken a winter evening, and later on ‘processed’ with filters, noise and stuff with one of many funny and playful apps.

We love photos

In the autumn the chestnuts are falling from the trees – just waiting for you to pick them up and play with them. We created these chestnut creatures, just like we did, when we were kids, put them on the table for a dinner party as decoration. Suddenly we were all talking about our childhood, how we played and had fun… and how we sometimes as grown ups forget to play…

Let's play

We love the combination of colour and pattern – a small “window“ in a house on Mallorca.

Cool colour and pattern – Andratx, Mallorca

We love these wonderful cups from the seventies – a gift from our good friend Karin. Summer come on…

This lovely yellow R we found at the Buchstabenmuseum in Berlin. It shows how the old neon letters was build.

Always looking for exiting type – found this cutie in Stockholm – sewn into a curtain…

We love type

We found this wonderful piece of street art in Florence, Italy. Actually the artwork was all over the city. Always with the colors black and red. A lot of humor, and some sadness, maybe some lost love…

We kind of love good old adidas sneakers in lower east…
