Lower East

it’s the blog

This is the blog for lower east & lower east lab. A mix of stuff from our design & communication world (things we do, things we have done, and things we experience and get inspired from) and news from our lab – where all kind of actions and experiments can happen – that be workshops, creative meetings, urban safaris (with focus on start up, architecture, design or food), and exhibitions, events, dinners and a lot more.

Cool jazz album covers

August 15, 2012

Very, very cool jazz album covers. Can’t remember what I was looking for. But fell into a trap filled up with jazz album covers from the 50ties and 60ties. So cool, so simple, so well designed. From what I found, here is a small selection, where you almost can hear the music by looking at the covers.

Most of the covers are designed by the outstanding American graphic designer Reid Miles, who was the man behind hundreds of album covers for Blue Note from about 1955.

One of the album covers are designed by Saul Bass, who designed quite some fantastic film posters and famous film title sequences. Logo design and album cover design as well as film-making he mastered as well. Another two from this fine selection are designed by well known book jacket and album cover designer Paul Bacon. Bacon was a jazz musician too, favorite instrument was the comb.
